A short history of the “Barbara”

1963 - 1964: The “Alpengasthof Haus Barbara” was built by Barbara and Ferdinand Winter, the parents of Monika and grandparents of Christian Sager.

1964: First winter season with 14 rooms (hot and cold water in the rooms and shared showers on the corridor). The “Barbara” was run by Maria Huber, Barbara Winter’s sister until 1990. Barbara and Ferdinand Winter ran the Catholic Youth Hostel situated at the entrance to Obertauern from Christmas 1952 to 1982 († Ferdinand Winter).
 

1965 - 1980: The Barbara was open in winter and summer.

1969: The first winter seasons in “Barbara” were so well-booked, that 3 rooms with shower/WC, 2 staff rooms and a private flat were added.
 

1979: The Hotel Winter was built next to the old Zehnerkar lift.  
 

1989: All rooms at the “Barbara” were renovated and en-suite facilities added.  In the same year Monika Sager and her brothers Herbert and Sepp Winter founded the Hotel-Winter-GmbH (Ltd.), which they ran together until 1999. After this limited company was dissolved Monika took over the “Barbara” and her brothers the Hotel Winter.

1992 - 2000: Constant renovation work at the “Barbara”. The majority of rooms, the dining room, the snug and the sauna area were renovated or newly-built.

2001: Christian Sager and his wife Marie took over the hotel.

2002: Building of 6 additional rooms / suites and a lift. Renovation of dining room, conservatory and bar. The “Barbara” was renamed “Hotel Haus Barbara”. Birth of Gianluca.

2005: Terrace and Spiderbar were built. Due the bridge construction direct piste access was created.
 

2006: Birth of Gianluigi.

2008: In summer planning of the smallest 4-star hotel in Obertauern started. Unfortunately our namesake Barbara Winter died in this year.  
 

2009: Construction of the smallest 4-star hotel in Obertauern. 16 rooms, the health spa, the hotel bar and dining room were newly-renovated. An outdoor whirlpool was built and half-board guests and à la carte guests were separated. The “Spiderbar” became the Restaurant “M3”.
